    Josephine Arroues Voorhees

    Josephine "Jo" Arroues was born on January 4, 1909 to pioneer citrus ranchers, Bernard and Marcelina Arroues of Fullerton. She attended Fullerton Union High School and graduated from U.C. Berkeley, with a major in Physical education and minor in dance. Jo taught dance at L.A. Girls Collegiate School until the school's closing during the Depression. She then married William H. Voorhees of Long Beach in 1939. The couple resided in Long Beach where Josephine taught dance at Long Beach City College and later at Long Beach State College. She was a community leader and supporter who was involved in the Assistance League and served as president of St. Mary's Hospital Guild in Long Beach, and president of the Los Angeles Diocese Arch Bishop's Guild. Upon retirement, the couple moved back to Fullerton in 1970 and spent their golden years traveling, entertaining and supporting various non-profit arts and medical organizations. J o is survived by her husband, William H. Voorhees; son, Dr. William W. Voorhees; daughter, Charleen Dunn; grandchildren, Stephanie Erin Dunn, Maj. Joseph Bryan Dunn, William Casey Dunn and Michael Corey Dunn; and great-grandchildren, Kendall Bailey Dunn, Casen Taylor Dunn and Michael Connor Blue. She died peacefully in her sleep at age 95 on Monday, June 14th, 2004. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 20th from 3PM to 6:30PM at McAulay & Wallace Fullerton Mortuary. Rosary will be held Sunday, June 20th at 7PM also at the Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 21, at 10AM at St. Angela Merici Church in Brea.
