His parents were Jean Hirigoyen, sailor, 36 years old and Catherine Official, housewife, 36 years old who were living at Mirrabayta no. 93 in Ciboure. The birth was declared by Gracieuse Girot, midwife because his father was absent at the time.

His death record shows a birth year of 1851, however his marriage record shows 1844 and there is a birth record found for him in that year, therefore it is assumed that the death record is incorrect.
