Her parents were Jean Pierre Elissague (deceased at the time of her birth) and Marianne Sargadoyburu, 32 years old, housewife. Her grandfather Bernard Sagardoyburu, 56 years old, shoemaker declared the birth since her father was deceased.

Census:
John Elissague was living in Merced with his mother, Anne Gargatin (age 62, widowed) and two sons, Henry (age 9) and Eugene (age 3). John was 42 years old and a widower. He and his mother were born in Franch and he immigrated in 1883 and she in 1884. He was a retail merchant of liquors.
