    His headstone indicates his birth year as 1839 which was incorrect per his birth record.

    In 1894, he declared bankruptcy from the sheep business due to drought, scarcity of pasturage and depression of the wool market. He owed money to quite a few Basques at the time. His property consisted of 1800 sheep at Los Alamitos, Orange County, 2 horses, 1 wagon & sheep camp utensils. His creditors recieved $.08 per dollar.
